the sea of lethe, like a river

Ever try to remember an idea slipping away in the mist of your memory? You cannot go back to remember it because by then it has changed swiftly like a sunset. When you are old this is what memories are like, that is if you are lucky in time you will find this in your view of the room. I strive to hold onto my memories, because who am I without my memories? Ideas coming into the concrete world from the abstract acquire shapes like slow moving clouds on a clear day, or perhaps more like a Hubble photograph of a far distant galaxy. There is something in the idea that is taking shape before your very mind. The idea is not moving when it comes to you but if you reflect on it, in the very shape of it there is a suggestion of future movement because there is evidence already of past movement. This is what astrophysicists do when they accept proof of something they cannot see but conclude it in the movement of something they can see. (A theoretical physicist talking to me let it slip out that he would have to have proof of an after life before he could believe it. I had to let it pass but this view is not much different than the random man in the street.) The man in the street would simply call it seeing is believing. But actually, seeing is not believing at all, believing is seeing. We see what we believe if we are truly believing. Believing is not a casual decision to go along with an idea or agree to it. Believing is not great in size but it is not so easy either. Still, it is easy if you don't care about it, but then too you do have to care about it. You have to do it without doing it. So it seems there is yet another galaxy Existence has in store for our amazement.
