acknowledging characteristics

Individuals become afraid at certain points but each of our two individual types are generally afraid of different fears. Many individuals become afraid of foreign attack and competition, the central feature of their fear is wariness of other people outside the larger group. We can label them conservative. They want to conserve and produce for the future to protect long term absolutes mentioned earlier, above all the spiritual rights of the individual. The opposing view is more afraid of inanimate forces like weather, loss of food and energy for physical comfort and sustainability of the group. They are free, or liberal, with greater concern for all material advantages and want to everyone to be able to consume without any emphasis on production, opposite of the conservative. Adlai Stevenson while running for the presidency against Eisenhower embodied the liberal view when he reportedly said that the nation had passed from the age of production into the age of consumption. The liberal view is little concerned with production and more involved in distribution of production as soon as possible. The conservative view on the other hand is more concerned with production and takes a longer term view of consumption. When the 1935 Social Security Act debate was taking place, Republicans were more concerned than Democrats with the long term shown in their reaction to the possible use of social security numbers to identify citizens. They were answered by the Democratic side with now famous comment like in the long term we are all dead and reassurances social security numbers would not be used to identify citizens. They were correct within their short term time frame while the Republicans were also correct, within their longer term time frame.
So far we have isolated the opposing emphasis on either production or consumption, a short and or a long term time frame, and fear of other people outside the greater group and the fear of inanimate forces that form sustainability and quality of life limitation fears. All human characteristics can be sorted in the similar emphasis hierarchies. These easily predictable differences remain an undercurrent of the seldom stated in public debate and if acknowledged would save a lot of yakkity yak.
